To: The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43

Sadly  Ron passed away in April this year and on what would have been his 79th  birthday, there was a memorial  service to commit his cremains  to his final resting place. At his funeral service in April there was a  poppy service conducted by the members of Branch 43 that was beautifully  moving and I wanted to carry that sentiment to the memorial service.  I quickly crocheted up some poppies for family that were attending.  After  the service we had lunch at a local diner and everyone immediately  noticed and commented on our poppies (we were a group of about 25) I explained where we had been and why we were wearing them. I offered to run out to my car to get the extra poppies I had so they could purchase  them explaining I would be donating all money to the Legion and in an instant the staff at the restaurant started passing the box around and  family started taking off theirs to sell because more people wanted one.  In that one day $80.00 was raised and it was at that moment that  I decided that this is something we'd like to to do on an annual basis  to honor his memory.

I am happy to report that 185 crochet poppies  were sold and we were able to raise $285.70 to donate our 1st year and we  look forward to contributing in the years to follow.
